  • Author: Ben
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 2 sandwiches 1x

Description

The Steak Egg Cheese Bagel is the ultimate breakfast sandwich combining tender, thinly sliced seared steak, perfectly cooked eggs topped with melted cheddar cheese, and toasted everything bagels. This hearty and flavorful sandwich is customizable with optional toppings like caramelized onions, hot sauce, or sriracha mayo, making it a perfect savory start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale

Bagels & Cheese

  • 2 Everything Bagels, split
  • 4 slices Cheddar Cheese (or your favorite cheese)

Steak

  • 8 oz Steak, thinly sliced (Ribeye or Sirloin recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper to taste

Eggs & Butter

  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Butter

Optional Toppings

  • Hot sauce, for serving
  • Caramelized Onions
  • Sriracha Mayo

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak. If not already thinly sliced, partially freeze the steak for about 30 minutes to facilitate slicing it thinly (around 1/8 inch thick) for quick and even cooking.
  2. Season the steak. Toss the sliced steak with a generous pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Optionally, add garlic powder or onion powder for additional flavor.
  3. Heat the skillet. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil, ensuring the pan is hot to get a good sear on the steak.
  4. Cook the steak. Add steak slices in a single layer without overcrowding and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until browned and cooked to your preference. Cook in batches if needed. Remove from skillet and tent with foil to rest.
  5. Cook the eggs. Melt butter in the same or separate skillet over medium heat. Crack in eggs and cook according to your desired doneness (sunny-side up, over easy, medium, or hard). Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Melt cheese on eggs. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each egg and cover with a lid to melt the cheese thoroughly.
  7. Toast the bagels. While eggs cook, toast bagel halves to your liking for crispiness and to prevent sogginess.
  8. Assemble the sandwich. Place the bottom halves of the bagels on plates, distribute the cooked steak evenly on each, then top with a cheesy egg.
  9. Add optional toppings. Add caramelized onions, hot sauce, or sriracha mayo if desired.
  10. Complete and serve. Place the bagel tops over the eggs and steak and serve immediately while warm and the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • Partially freezing the steak makes it easier to slice thinly for fast cooking.
  • Resting the steak after cooking allows the juices to redistribute, making it more tender.
  • Be careful not to overcrowd the skillet when cooking steak to ensure proper searing.
  • Cooking eggs to your preferred doneness allows customization of your sandwich.
  • To speed up cheese melting on eggs, cover the skillet with a lid.
  • Toasted bagels help prevent the sandwich from becoming soggy.
  • Optional toppings like caramelized onions and sauces add extra flavor and texture.
