Pumpkin Patch Strawberries Recipe

  • Author: Ben
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 16-20 strawberries 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These Pumpkin Patch Strawberries are a delightful seasonal treat combining fresh strawberries dipped in vibrant orange candy melts and optionally coated with a chocolate ‘dirt’ base made from crushed cookies and peanut butter cups. Perfectly festive for fall gatherings, they are decorated with a drizzle of melted orange chocolate to mimic a pumpkin patch aesthetic.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries (large, firm, with bright green tops)
  • 12 oz orange candy melts or white chocolate with orange food coloring
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or shortening (optional, for smoother melting)

Dirt Base (Optional)

  • 12 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
  • 6 chocolate peanut butter cups or chocolate disks, crushed

Tools

  • Piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberries: Gently wash 1 lb fresh strawberries and pat them completely dry. Ensure the green caps remain intact to maintain proper coating adhesion and visual appeal.
  2. Prepare “Dirt” Base (Optional): Crush 12 chocolate sandwich cookies and 6 chocolate peanut butter cups or chocolate disks finely using a food processor or by hand. Spread the crushed mixture evenly on a plate or shallow dish for coating.
  3. Melt Orange Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 12 oz orange candy melts (or white chocolate with orange food coloring). Add 1 tsp coconut oil or shortening if desired for smoother texture. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring well until smooth and fully melted, taking care not to burn the chocolate.
  4. Reserve for Drizzle: Set aside about 2-3 tablespoons of the melted orange chocolate. Transfer this reserved chocolate into a small piping bag or a zip-top bag with a tiny corner cut off for later decorative drizzling.
  5. Dip Strawberries: Holding each strawberry by its green cap, carefully dip it into the melted orange chocolate, coating fully or partially as preferred. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl for a neat finish.
  6. Coat with “Dirt” (Optional): While the chocolate coating is still wet, gently roll or press the bottom half of the dipped strawberry into the crushed cookie mixture to create the charming “pumpkin patch” effect.
  7. Set & Chill: Place the dipped strawberries onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate for 15-30 minutes or until the chocolate coating firms up completely.
  8. Decorate & Serve: Use the reserved melted orange chocolate in the piping bag to drizzle decorative lines, swirls, or pumpkin-like patterns over the strawberries. Serve chilled for the best taste and presentation.

Notes

  • Ensure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to help chocolate adhere smoothly.
  • The “dirt” base is optional but adds texture and a fun visual element, resembling soil in a pumpkin patch.
  • Coconut oil or shortening improves the flow of the melted chocolate, making dipping easier.
  • Use white chocolate with orange food coloring if orange candy melts are unavailable.
  • Store finished strawberries in the refrigerator and consume within 2 days for optimal freshness.
