- 16 oz wide egg noodles
- 4–6 Tbsp butter, cut into ¼” chunks
- 2–3 Tbsp salt (for pasta water)
- ¼ tsp salt (optional, for seasoning)
- ⅛ tsp pepper (optional)
- 2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Boil Water: Put 4 quarts of water into a large pot along with 2-3 tablespoons of salt and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Add and Stir Pasta: Add the egg noodles to the boiling water and stir immediately to prevent sticking. Continue stirring every 10 seconds until the water returns to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.
- Set Timer and Cook: Set a timer for the lower end of the package cooking time (e.g., if package says 8-10 minutes, set for 8 minutes) and stir the noodles every minute or so to ensure even cooking.
- Test for Doneness: When the timer goes off, use a spoon to lift a noodle from the pot, cool it slightly by blowing on it, and taste. If not tender enough, continue cooking and testing every minute until desired softness is reached.
- Drain Noodles: Place a large colander in the sink and pour the pasta and water into it to drain thoroughly.
- Butter and Season: Return the drained noodles to the empty pot, add the butter chunks, and stir until fully melted. Taste and adjust seasoning by adding up to ¼ teaspoon salt if needed. Stir in pepper and fresh parsley if using.
