These Brown Sugar Donuts are a healthier twist on the classic treat, made with Truvia® sweeteners and non-fat dairy ingredients for a lower-calorie option without sacrificing flavor. Soft, moist, and perfectly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, these baked donuts are easy to prepare and topped with a cinnamon-stevia sugar for a delightful finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large Egg
  • 1/3 cup Truvia® Sweet Complete® Brown With a Hint of Molasses
  • 1/4 cup Non-Fat Milk
  • 1/4 cup Plain Non-Fat Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract

Topping

  • 1 cup Truvia® Sweet Complete® Granulated All-Purpose Stevia Leaf Sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Spray a donut pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until evenly mixed.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the egg, Truvia® Sweet Complete® Brown Sweetener, non-fat milk, and non-fat yogurt until smooth. Add melted butter and vanilla extract, whisking until fully combined.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. The batter will be very thick.
  5. Fill the donut pan: Pipe or spoon the batter into each donut cup, filling 2/3 to 3/4 full to allow room for rising.
  6. Bake the donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 9-10 minutes or until the edges turn lightly browned and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool the donuts: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 2 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack set over parchment paper or a baking sheet.
  8. Finish cooling: Let the donuts cool completely on the rack, about 10 minutes, before adding the topping.
  9. Prepare and apply topping: In a medium bowl, combine the granulated Stevia sweetener and ground cinnamon. Dip each cooled donut in melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-stevia mix.
  10. Serve and store: Enjoy immediately or store the donuts in an airtight container to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts tender and light.
  • Use a piping bag or a spoon to fill the donut pan for even shapes.
  • Ensure donuts are completely cool before adding the topping to prevent melting and sogginess.
  • Store donuts at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For a vegan alternative, substitute egg and dairy with plant-based options, noting that texture may vary.
