  • Total Time: 25-30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This baked feta recipe combines creamy feta cheese with a crunchy sesame seed crust and a sweet drizzle of honey, enhanced by the aromatic touch of oregano. Served warm with toasted pitta bread, it makes a delightful appetizer or snack that’s quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese

  • 200g block feta

Coating & Toppings

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
  • 2 tbsp honey, plus extra to serve
  • 1 tsp roughly chopped oregano
  • Olive oil, for drizzling

To Serve

  • Warmed pitta breads

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Heat the oven to 200C (180C fan) or gas mark 6 to ensure it’s ready for baking your feta.
  2. Coat the feta with honey and sesame seeds. Place the toasted sesame seeds in a shallow dish. Brush the block of feta all over with 2 tablespoons of honey, then carefully press it into the sesame seeds, turning so it’s evenly coated and crusted.
  3. Prepare the feta for baking. Place the sesame-crusted feta snugly into a baking dish. Sprinkle the chopped oregano and a pinch of sea salt over the top, then drizzle with olive oil to add moisture and enhance flavor.
  4. Bake the feta. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the feta becomes soft and warm throughout.
  5. Finish and serve. Remove from the oven, drizzle with extra honey, and serve immediately with warmed pitta breads on the side for dipping and scooping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a high-quality extra virgin olive oil for drizzling.
  • Warm your pitta breads just before serving by toasting or heating in the oven.
  • To toast sesame seeds, dry-fry them in a pan over medium heat until golden and fragrant, taking care not to burn them.
  • This dish works well as a starter or party snack.
  • For a nutty twist, consider adding crushed pistachios along with sesame seeds.
